RACE POSTPONED 2-WEEKS TO OCTOBER 19TH

ANNOUNCEMENT:
RACE POSTPONED 2-WEEKS TO OCTOBER 19TH

Hello SPACEROCK Trail Race runners,

All week, we have been monitoring the weather for race day. About 5-days ago, it looked good, with temperatures in the mid-80s. But each day, the weather reports were going up, and yesterday, a heat advisory was issued for the Agua Dulce area for this week.  The heat is rolling in all week, and now we are looking at potential 100-degree temps for race day, which can pose a severe risk on this course.

Large sections of the course are inaccessible by vehicles in case of emergencies. Top that with little to no shade aside from the tunnel for 15K and Half Marathon runners, makes it a very hot course for all runners once the heat starts to kick in. We plan and prepare to ensure the race is perfect and safe for everyone. However, weather risks are beyond our control, and safety is always a top priority for us. We must adapt and take steps to provide the best and safest solution to continue forward.

The timing of this heat wave is unfortunate, but due to the forecast conditions, we are forced to postpone the SPACEROCK Trail Race by 2-weeks to host on Saturday, October 19, 2024. This is the first window that makes the most sense, and the forecast conditions are projected with temperatures in the 80s.

What happens if you can’t make the new race date? We understand the new date may conflict with some runners who have prior commitments. You have the following options available:

  1. Defer entry to 2025.
  2. Change entry to virtual and receive medal & swag in the mail.
  3. Transfer entry to another person.
  4. Forgo entry and receive 50% discount towards any of our California races.
  5. Donate entry to help support the race.

Normally there are fees to defer or transfer entries, but these will be waived because of the date change. If you wish to choose one of these options, please submit a request, or contact us for questions.

As you can imagine, this is very challenging for us. We have been working for months to prepare for an out-of-this-world race, it is one of our favorite races to host. We just hosted our volunteer training on Saturday, so everything is going to shift. We have a ton of touchpoints that need to be updated from all our vendors, suppliers, permits, volunteers, and runners to adjust everything out by 2-weeks.  Still, we are resilient and resourceful, after surviving the pandemic shutdowns we know that we can overcome any challenge.

The good news is that this opens up a window to extend your training a few more weeks, and push even harder so you can be ready to have your best race. Take this time to make the best of it and we'll do the same so we can bring you our best trail race experience.

Please help spread the word, and tell your friends so everyone can plan accordingly.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support. We will continue to prepare for an out-of-this-world trail race in 2-weeks and we can't wait to see you at the start line!

Love and happy running,

Terry, Jenny, and the New Global Adventures Team
